The driver of a box truck was thrown from his vehicle as the truck overturned. A Maryland State Police medevac helicopter did fly him to Christiana Hospital, which is located in Delaware, but the medical staff announced that he had passed away when he arrived at the hospital.
The accident happened on Friday, Nov. 18, just after 9:00 a.m. Initial reports indicate that a passenger vehicle actually caused the wreck when it ran into the back of the truck. The driver then lost control of the truck after the collision, and it went into the median and rolled over. As it rolled, he was tossed out of the cab and fatally injured.
Pictures from the scene show the destroyed box truck, which is barely recognizable, lying next to the guardrail. The contents of the trailer are scattered in the grass all around it. The guardrail also appears to have been damaged.
Police stopped traffic to clean up after the accident and to bring in the helicopter.
The driver of the other car, which initially hit the box truck, stayed at the scene. He's from Virginia. The reports say that he was offered medical treatment by the emergency response team, but he said he did not need it.
Police did say that despite reports painting a fairly good picture of what happened, they were still investigating to find out exactly what caused the two cars to collide in the first place.
This story shows just how quickly a loved one can be taken away in an accident. If this has happened to your family, you may be able to seek financial compensation for your loss.
