A woman has been arrested by the Montgomery County Police Department. They claim she was the driver in a fatal hit-and-run accident that took the life of a man from Washington.
According to the official statement from the authorities, the officers got a call around 2:30 in the morning, on a Saturday, saying there had been an accident in Silver Spring. They responded and found that a 49-year-old man had been hit.
The investigation is in its preliminary stages, but officers think that the man was crossing the road, and they said that he was in the crosswalk, which was clearly marked. A car hit him while he was in the street. The police say they talked to witnesses, and those witnesses claim that the woman driving the car stopped, got out and then returned to her vehicle and fled.
These witnesses described the woman and the vehicle. An officer then found the car, and they arrested the woman. Not only do they claim she hit the man and ran from the scene, but they say she was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The man was taken to the hospital, but he passed away there.
At this time, news outlets have not released the woman's name since the charges haven't been filed. The police are waiting to complete their investigation before they do so.
Have you lost a loved one because of a drunk driver? It's important to know your legal rights to compensation, which may be sought in civil court. A conviction in criminal court may help, but it's not required.
