How to spot a drunk driver in Maryland

Drunk driving is a big problem on the roads of not just Maryland, but the entire country. Law enforcement agencies across the state do their best to curb this issue, but so long as people continue to make bad decisions, there will be drunk driving accidents. Here's how you can spot a drunk driver in the state of Maryland.

When you are on the roads of Maryland, you should always be on the lookout for drunk drivers. The time of day does not matter. The day of the week does not matter. The weather does not matter. Drunk drivers can be on the roads anytime of the day, any day of the week and during any weather situation.

Here are some signs for spotting a drunk driver in Montgomery:

- Tailgating

- Quick acceleration or deceleration

- Swerving

- Weaving across the road

- Almost hitting another vehicle, object or curb

- Driving without headlights on at nighttime

- Driving in and out of marked lanes

- Erratic braking

- Stopping without cause

- Driving slower than 10 mph under the posted speed limit

- Driving on the wrong side of the road

- Driving into opposing traffic and not reacting

- Driving on any surface not marked for motor vehicles

- Slow response to a green light from a red light

- Signaling when not required

- Failing to signal when required

- Riding the center line

- Making abrupt or illegal turns

If you spot a possible drunk driver, it's in your best interest to stay a safe distance from them. Never try to pass them. If possible, record their license plate number, make and model of the vehicle and any other description that you can provide to emergency personnel. Make sure you have the name of the road you are on as well.
