Common hazardous conditions found in the workplace

Going to work each day should not be dangerous, unless you work in a profession that is inherently dangerous. We understand the dangers of first responders, military personnel and those who work in other jobs that are known to be dangerous. But, if you work in an office, you shouldn't have to worry about hazards that could harm you or make you ill. But, in today's workplace, this isn't the case.

Physical hazards can make anyone ill or injure them because they are part of the environment. These hazards include extreme temperatures, radiation, constant loud noises and exposure to the sun or ultraviolet rays.

Even if you work in a typical office setting, you can be exposed to chemical hazards. Chemicals can be found just about anywhere at work, including the kitchen, closets, bathrooms and other locations. Exposure to these chemicals can lead to injury or illness if they are not properly marked or stored.

Work organization hazards are those that cause stress (short-term) and strain (long-term) on employees. These hazards can include lack of flexibility, lack of respect for employees, sexual harassment in the workplace, workload demand, the pace of the workplace and more.

Ergonomic hazards are quite common in the workplace, especially in typical office settings. These occur when employees don't have chairs or workstations that are properly adjusted. These also occur when employees have poor posture, routinely lift heavy objects and are subjected to vibrations often.

Hazardous conditions can occur in any workplace throughout Maryland and Montgomery is no exception. If you have been injured by a wet floor or the lack of repair of a broken item at work, contact our firm to discuss your case.
