Avoid fall hazards by keeping your shoes on your feet

Just like motor vehicle drivers can learn defensive driving habits to avoid accidents and injuries, pedestrians can learn safe walking habits too. If a safe walking practice helps you avoid taking a tumble and getting seriously hurt, then efforts to be a more responsible walker will be more than worth the time spent to read a few articles.

Here's how to prevent your feet from slipping right out of your shoes:

Spray hairspray on your feet: Did you know that hairspray will take lipstick off clothing, kill bugs, stop stocking runs and can even be used as a means of self defense against a would-be attacker? It can also help keep your shoes from slipping off your feet. When you spray your feet with hairspray, they get sticky and this will keep your shoes where they're supposed to be -- on your feet!

Try the double-sided tape trick: If you're walking around the office and your shoes keep falling off, but you can't go home to switch them out a better fitting pair, consider taking a detour into the supply closet and grab a few pieces of double-sided tape. Jessica Alba says that this is her go-to choice for keeping her shoes on in a pinch.

Try shoe inserts, insoles and shoe cushions: These soft little shoe add-ons will reduce the amount of free space in your shoes, so your feet will fit more snuggly and stop swimming around. Make sure to put a little cushion right where your heel touches the shoe to add a little more snugness where necessary.

Most men tie their shoes on tightly with shoelaces. Women more commonly have shoes without laces, and they're also more likely to be high heels or platforms, making them even more wobbly and precarious, so these tips and tricks are especially helpful to women. Are you ready to be a safer walker and avoid slip and fall injuries? Study up on shoe safety and you'll be good to go!
