Allegedly drunk driver injures stopped driver in Maryland

Driving is often an essential part of living and working in Maryland and other road-heavy states. Although driving under the influence has decreased in recent years, it is still a problem in many areas and can cause more than delays and inconvenience.

Drunk driving is especially dangerous on interstate highways and other multilane roads, where high speeds and sudden turns are common. Inattentive driving is especially dangerous if a driver is buzzed or drunk, and a recent accident was compounded when an allegedly drunk driver entered the scene.

A Baltimore County man was arrested after he struck a stopped car with his vehicle on an eastbound section of Interstate 70 in Woodbine. Regional police continue to investigate the accident while charges against the driver are pending.

The stopped car had recently become disabled after it left the road and reentered. The driver had stopped on the side of the road when the allegedly drunk driver slammed into him before both cars came to rest in the center median. The driver of the moving car reported he did not see the car before he hit it.

The 18-year-old driver of the stopped car was evacuated to a University of Maryland trauma center for treatment of injuries. The other driver may face charges related to driving under the influence and negligence.

Victims of drunk driving accidents are eligible to claim reimbursement for medical expenses and lost wages related to recovery, as well as compensation for pain and suffering. An attorney is often instrumental in determining financial awards and fighting for victims' claims.
