2 pedestrians struck in Ocean City in 2 weekends

People have to share roads with all sorts of vehicles. Central and coastal Maryland host a variety of roads and bridges that tie together infrastructure for passengers, shipping and pedestrians alike.

Keeping walkways near motor vehicles poses its share of risks to pedestrians. Walkers are in danger from cars that fail to stop at stop signs or red lights, driver distraction and other causes of auto-pedestrian collisions.

Special events can increase risks for collisions, as pedestrians often spill over into streets and cars find it difficult to avoid them. Ocean City, Maryland, recently hosted two auto shows in a row, with a pedestrian fatality during each one.

An unidentified man reportedly darted into the road in front of a patrol vehicle being driven by a 17-year veteran of the Maryland State Police. The trooper was unable to avoid striking the person in the middle lane of a three-lane highway.

This occurred on the weekend after a local police cruiser struck a 26-year-old man visiting Ocean City from Connecticut. Fortunately, the man survived and was released from the hospital. The recent victim was unfortunately not so lucky.

Both incidents took place during heightened deployments for special events. The collisions are being investigated to avoid further injury or death.

Victims of pedestrian collisions or the survivors of fatalities have rights to seek financial damages for medical expenses, lost wages during recovery and compensation for pain and suffering.

Legal representation can help victims analyze their options for setttlements, court actions and other legal procedures for assigning civil responsibility.
