Why is truck driver fatigue so dangerous?

Driving fatigued can be just as bad as driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It can also be as dangerous as driving distracted. When a drowsy driver hits the roads of Montgomery, he or she will put every other motorist around in danger. The danger becomes even worse when it is a fatigued truck driver. So, why is truck driver fatigue so dangerous?

Truck Driver Landscape.jpg

For starters, fatigued driving causes a truck driver to struggle with making split-second decisions. Their reaction time will be compromised due to their lack of sleep. When people are too tired, they cannot make important, last-second decisions. These can include when to brake, when to turn' and when to make an evasive maneuver.

A fatigued driver will also have trouble paying attention to the road around them. This includes struggling to watch for brake lights in front of them, traffic lights up ahead, slowed traffic and many other activities. When drivers fail to pay attention, they are more likely to be involved in accidents. An inattentive truck driver can be a death wish for some.

The driver's ability to make good decisions when drowsy will also be inhibited. This is very much like driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. When a driver is fatigued, he or she will struggle to make the right decision because they don't have enough energy to think things through properly.

Have you been injured in a truck accident caused by a fatigued driver? An experienced personal injury attorney in Montgomery, Maryland can help you defend your rights and move forward with legal action against the driver.
