Maryland man killed after being hit by car

Motor vehicle collisions can be a time-wasting annoyance, a significant financial event or an injurious tragedy. Maryland's cities, towns and farmland can all be the settings for fender benders or worse car accidents, which may even claim a life.

Pedestrians and bicyclists face a specifically high risk on the roads if they are near or involved in a collision. There is no protection for people on foot or bikes as there is on cars and trucks in the case of collision, making even a minor or slow-speed accident a possibility of serious injury or death.

A 26-year-old man walking along a state road in the southern Maryland town of Indian Head lost his life when he was struck by a car traveling in the same direction. A preliminary investigation by the Maryland State Police revealed that a 36-year-old woman from Waldorf struck the victim just before 10 p.m.

Emergency personnel in Charles County responded to the scene but pronounced the victim dead before they could transport him to a hospital. The victim was wearing dark clothing at the time of the accident, and no charges have yet been filed against the driver of the vehicle.

Pedestrians need to be careful on and near roads, especially at times of reduced visibility. Likewise, drivers have a responsibility to keep their eyes peeled for hazards to them and others on the road.

Pedestrian victims of car accidents and their survivors may claim financial restitution if a driver was at fault. An attorney may be the best companion when forwarding such a case.
