Pedestrian versus car accidents leaves 1 dead in Maryland

A tragic pedestrian accident resulted in the death of one man along Capital Beltway late last month. The incident happened on a Tuesday afternoon close to College Park just after 3:30 p.m. According to Maryland troopers, the victim was hit by a semitruck traveling eastbound along the Beltway.

Authorities believe that the 66-year-old pedestrian was walking in the road at the time of the collision. However, police are continuing to investigate the crash to determine exactly what happened. At this time, they do not believe that the 46-year-old semitruck driver was drunk or intoxicated. More information is expected to be released upon the completion of police investigations into the incident. During the initial investigation, police shut down the eastbound lanes of traffic for approximately three hours.

Unfortunately, first responders were unable to save the pedestrian's life, and he did not survive the crash. The semitruck driver, on the other hand, did not suffer any reported injuries.

Car drivers tend to be held to a higher responsibility than pedestrians in a Maryland pedestrian versus car accident. As such, pedestrians are often given the right of way and blame is given to the vehicle driver. Nevertheless, every case is different.

Sometimes, police fault the pedestrian for walking where he or she should not have been walking, or for darting out into traffic. Nevertheless, every pedestrian crash is unique -- and especially if it results in death -- family members of the victim may want to investigate whether they have sufficient cause to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit relating to their loss.
