Woman injured by driver fleeing an accident scene

Driving is generally a safe pastime in Maryland, although risks can be higher on high-speed highways and near urban centers. Some minor accidents are little more than inconveniences, but a car colliding with a person can easily cause injury or death.

A bizarre incident beginning with a minor car accident resulted in injury when one of the drivers involved allegedly tried to run down the other. A 24-year-old woman was driving on Maryland State Route 301 when her car was sideswiped by another.

Both drivers stopped, although the other did not respond to the woman when she asked for his information. When she attempted to photograph both cars, the other driver's car lurched forward and nearly pinned her between the vehicles. She was injured when she fell off the car's hood as the driver swerved to shake her off.

Police arrived and arrested the 27-year-old second driver at the scene for first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and various related traffic offenses, according to local police.

Although it may be daunting and frightening to deal with a car accident, it is always worse when drivers attempt to flee the scene of an accident. Any injury caused to pedestrians while a suspect flees the scene will result in further charges as well as the danger to people nearby.

Victims of car-on-pedestrian accidents may seek financial damages to cover reimbursement for medical expenses, compensation for pain and emotional distress or other related costs. A legal representative may help victims and their families sort out the options in these unfortunate situations.
