Hit-and-run death investigated in Prince George's County

Roads are generally safe but they can cause dangerous situations. Any place where cars and trucks are moving quickly can be the scene of a collision, and the close quarters that drivers and walkers find in metropolitan areas of Maryland also make this result more likely.

Drivers and pedestrians alike need to be careful and considerate on the road to make sure everyone gets home safely each night. A few issues, such as limited visibility or impairment due to drugs or alcohol, can make situations even more dangerous. Distracted driving also may turn deadly.

In the unlikely event of an accident, it is very important to remain at the scene to share information with other people involved or the authorities that may respond. Leaving the scene of an accident can cause or add on to possible criminal charges that result from a collision.

Recently, two pedestrians were struck in Anne Arundel. One of the victims was seriously injured and the other victim died. In the first accident, a 40-year-old man was struck by an Anne Arundel County police car. The incident occurred in Pasadena about 6:56 p.m. The police said that the man was crossing Fort Smallwood Road outside of a crosswalk. This was identified by police as the cause of the accident. The victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The second accident occurred on Route 3 at Crofton Boulevard. The 31-year-old man was struck as he tried to cross Route 3 by a 2013 Toyota Yaris driven by a 28-year-old woman. Authorities said the man died at the scene and was trying to cross Route 3 without an intersection or crosswalk.

The victims of car crashes and the survivors of fatalities have the right to sue for appropriate financial damages after a collision. A lawyer can help victims and their families work out the right legal approach after a life-changing accident occurs.
