Malloy News Brief: Chevy Chase Road Closures

For the last three decades, Maryland’s planned Purple Line light rail route has straddled the line between urban development and urban myth. It’s taken a long, circuitous path from concept to planning to even a thin veneer of reality, but while longtime Montgomery and Prince George’s county residents may roll their eyes and admonish those unaccustomed to endless delays and work stoppages for believing that the elusive purple line will soon arrive, it does seem, for the moment, that construction will be completed in time for the projected December 2027 opening date. Today’s Malloy News Brief will inform locals of current and future road closures in the area to allow for purple line construction. Read on for the full story on these Chevy Chase Road Closures.

Chevy Chase Road Closures – November 2025

According to an update from Maryland transportation and transit officials, Jones Mill Road between Jones Bridge Road and Coquelin Terrace in Chevy Chase will be closed for around two weeks beginning on or around Sunday the 9th to make way for the construction of the light-rail Purple Line in the vicinity.

It is anticipated that the closure will conclude on November 16.

The ongoing construction of various purple line rails and stations has broken up traffic patterns all across Montgomery County. Silver Spring, in particular, has seen multiple medium- and long-term street closures. Wayne Avenue has been subject to heavy construction for the entire summer. Wayne Avenue has become a dead end beyond the Fenton Street intersection. Bonifant Street has also been closed in between Georgia Avenue and Ramsay Avenue.

A full account of the detour routes necessitated by these road closures can be found here.

More Work to Come

Also of interest is the coming campaign of nighttime and early morning work in the Silver Spring area. This will continue into the new year, as weather conditions will soon make concrete curing difficult, and necessitate work outside of the conventional 7 AM to 5 PM work window for road construction.
